Efficacy Testing - Agrochemicals and Biopesticides

i2LResearch offers a wide range of efficacy testing on plant protection products, including insecticides, molluscicides, acaricides, herbicides, fungicides, nematicides and fertilisers, in the areas of horticulture and agriculture. Data can be used for registration or for R&D and marketing purposes.

GEP field trials offered throughout Europe covering all EPPO climatic zones for registration.

Evaluation of baited pellet, seed dressings, foliar applications and biological control products over a range of different slug and snail species.

Controlled laboratory:

  • LD50 and LD90 screening of new active ingredients
  • Bait palatability/optimisation
  • Initial acceptability/relative toxicity
  • Evaluation of attractants, repellents and phagostimulants
  • Effects of products against different species and ages of slugs and snails (including the Golden Apple snail)

Semi field:

  • Product efficacy
  • Product longevity/integrity
  • Minimum effective dose
  • Efficacy against specialist and high-value crops
  • Efficacy against specific target species/pest pressures

Field evaluation:

Crops include (but are not restricted to):
Oil seed rape, cereals, potato, Brassica, leafy vegetables (e.g. lettuce), strawberries, tomatoes, artichoke, citrus, maize, soybean, high-value ornamental species, vineyards, orchards.

Trials can be conducted in outdoor field situations or under protected conditions.

Target pests include:

  • Whitefly (Trialeurodes and Bemisia)
  • Aphids (Myzus persicae, Aphis gossypii, Macrosiphum rosae, M. euphorbiae, Nasonovia ribisnigri and Eriosoma spp.)
  • Thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis and Thrips tabaci)
  • Mites (Tetranychus urticae)
  • Scale (Abrallaspis cyanophilli)
  • Mealybug (Planococcus citri)
  • Black vine weevil (Otiorhynchus sulcatus)
  • Lily beetle (Lilioceris lilii)
  • Cabbage root fly (Delia radicum)
  • Cabbage white butterfly (Pieris rapae and P. brassicae)
  • Tomato moth (Lacanobia oleracea)
  • Pollen beetle (Meligethes spp.)
  • Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata)
  • Tomato leaf miner (Tuta absoluta)
  • Codling moth (Cydia pomonella)
  • Rape stem weevil (Ceutorhynchus napi)

Target diseases for trials conducted on a range of ornamental and crop varieties under field or glasshouse conditions include:

  • Black spot
  • Rust
  • Powdery mildew
  • Botrytis
  • Blight

Trials in high-quality turf include:

  • Dollar spot
  • Microdochium
  • Red thread

Typically, trials are conducted for amenity and grassland situations. We have excellent access to:

  • Industrial non-crop land
  • Ways and patios
  • Soft surface/shingle
  • Shrub and nursery
  • Railway ballast
  • High-quality turf for fertiliser trials along with moss and weed control

We can also perform trials on specific target weeds e.g. Equisetum, glyphosate resistant weed varieties.

In addition we can offer glasshouse situations for:

  • Evaluation and screening of new AIs
  • Evaluation of fertilisers for turf growth under drought stressed conditions

  • Crop safety and phytotoxicity testing on a whole range of vegetable and ornamental plant varieties
  • Effects of treated plants on bee health and survival
  • Full-scale field trials for the effects of nematicides for the control of free-living nematodes in vegetable crops
